Arthur Ying Mah

Art is survived by his partner Beverly Alting and his three daughters: Staci Mah, Colleen Geerlinks and Jaimee Leystra. He is also survived by his two sons-in-law: Bryan Geerlinks, Braden Leystra and his five grandchildren: Aidan Cutting, Josh Cutting, Ben Geerlinks, Matthew Geerlinks and Lily Leystra. Art also enjoyed spending time with Bev’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There are many other extended family and friends who were very special in Art’s life as well.

Art was an Elementary Teacher for School District #34 in Abbotsford, BC for 39 years. He worked at South Poplar Elementary, King Elementary, Ten Brock Elementary, Chief Dan George Elementary and Terry Fox Elementary schools. He loved his job and enjoyed teaching the children so much.

During retirement, Art also enjoyed many adventures with “The Abbotsford Walking/Hiking and More” Meet-up Group, of which Beverly is the Organization Leader. The countless pictures of Art on his outdoor activities with the Meet-up Group, illustrate his enthusiasm for life and adventure. Art was the ultimate Outdoorsman. He loved being outdoors in nature: hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, target shooting, you name it!

On Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at two o’clock in the afternoon, there will be a Celebration of Art’s Life at Henderson’s Fraser Valley Funeral Home, located at 34537 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, BC.

Reception to follow immediately after service, along with an open mic for anyone to share memories and stories about Art.

An Interment service for Art will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Burnaby, BC, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that guests consider making a donation, in memoriam of Art, to the “Star Fish Pack” program sponsored by the Archway Food Bank in conjunction with 42 elementary, middle and high schools in Abbotsford.
