It is with warm memories that we share the passing our dear mother Connie, 81 years of a life well lived. She passed on peacefully in her sleep at home in Abbotsford, BC. Connie was born in Ohsweken, Ontario on Six Nations Reserve where she grew up as the youngest daughter and last surviving child of seven children. Her parents were Ruby and Gordon Farmer.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her three sons Wally, Steve and Jeff. Her youngest child, daughter, Kim passed away on January 5th, 2010. Connie was an “ace” of a grandma and was cherished by her grandchildren in both BC and Ontario as well as the many nieces and nephews who endearingly gave her the nickname – “Con Swan.” During the pandemic, even though she never really understood how this worked, she was delighted and looked forward to the family FaceTime calls. It meant a lot to her to see so many of her family join in to stay connected across the miles.
Connie was an amazing cook and found great pleasure in preparing meals regularly for her family and friends. Her cabbage rolls and scones were always a hit at family gatherings. She was a collector of cookbooks and shared many of her favourite sweet treat recipes especially over the holidays when she would deliver plates of her hand baked love to family and friends.
Connie was proud of the fact that she returned to college later in her life and achieved her certificate in the Community Support Worker field. She was very dedicated and well respected by her clients for going above and beyond in the care she provided to them.
In her retirement years Connie was able to pursue her love of playing euchre and cribbage with great Heart and enthusiasm! She won the title of “Queen of Euchre” and sparkled like a Diamond when given the opportunity to call trump. She would dig in with her Spade of talent to win at all costs! Prior to the pandemic, Connie had a circle of dear friends that she travelled with near and far 3-4 times a week including week-end tournaments be a part of going for the win! She really, really missed this part of her life over the past two years due to the pandemic.
Connie showed her love for others with her acts of kindness and generosity. She was always there for her family and friends, even in her final weeks when she was not feeling her best she worried and wanted to make sure everyone was doing OK. She had a great sense of humour and found joy in making people laugh with her one-liners. Connie will always be remembered for her legacy of unconditional love and care as a dear mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend.
A viewing service will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Rd Abbotsford BC from 2:30 – 4 pm. Our family offers our heartfelt thanks to those who provided the many forms of support during this difficult time. The phone calls and messages of condolences were so appreciated; please accept this as an expression of our deepest gratitude.
It was our mothers wish to return home to Six Nations as her final resting place. The family will finalize these plans later this year.
Our mother is now bathed in the beauty & love of the creator.
We will sorely miss your presence here on this earth.
Loving you always. Forgetting you never.
