It is with heavy hearts that the Wolk family announces the passing of Cory Michael James Wolk in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Cory is lovingly remembered by his parents (Dawson and Lynda), his daughters Tatum and Paige, the Wolk clan in Regina along with the Ivison clan in Calgary and Winnipeg, and Emry. Cory was predeceased by his brother, Dawson in 2017.
Cory was born in Montreal Quebec on 28 December 1976 and moved to Winnipeg at the age of five. A good student, he excelled in school. Cory was an excellent athlete and participated in baseball, football and hockey at the highest levels. He loved all sports but eventually had to choose one as the seasons conflicted with each sport including the school teams and the district teams. At the age of 16, Cory left home to pursue his passion of hockey and education.
Cory graduated from Notre Dame College in Wilcox Saskatchewan in 1994. He played with a few junior teams before and after graduation. Such a fun time for the family as we got to see Cory play across western Canada and continue to grow into the man that he was to become. He truly was a leader and a man of principles.
Cory finally settled in Abbotsford, British Columbia to take up a career and to seek his fortune.
Throughout Cory’s short time on earth, his family can not remember when he had a bad thing to say about anyone that he encountered in his life. While there may be differences, he maintained an ability to remain focused and look only for the common good. As sick as Cory was at the end, he never once compromised this basic principle and never once complained.
He enjoyed all types of music, companionship, friendship, and cats and dogs, but nothing took away from his devotion to his daughters. Cory was immensely proud and did what he could for them. He wanted nothing more than to be in their life and for their happiness and success in life.
To all of Cory’s great friends over the years, Ben, Jamie and Tina, Kevin, Derek, David, Greg, Mike and too many more to mention, made for much happiness and mischievousness over the years but most importantly resulted in creating many long-lasting memories for all.
To Cory, immediate family was everything. He said like friendship, that is the true measure of a man. And his immediate family loved him back.
Cory’s personal belief system was always about goodness and kindness to others. He was always upbeat and positive even when some of those around were less receptive but he held the attitude that today will always be a better day.
We now have an empty seat for the viewing of those baseball, hockey, and basketball games that will now always be available whether watching in person, at home, or listening on the radio in the garage which we often did.
The family would like to extend a big thank-you to the Abbotsford Regional Hospital ICU department where the Doctors and nurses took care of Cory for the past 26 days of his life. The nurses were angels in disguise and did what they could to provide for Cory and his family during this time. Cory had a big heart, but it gradually wore down with his fight to survive. Cory was too tired to continue the fight and passed on the 7th of June 2024.
A private service is going to be held in Abbotsford date yet to be determined.
The family requests that rather than send donations to a charity, please take time to say I love you to those that are important to you and mean something in your life and tell them often. Such opportunities can be lost far too soon.
Do not grieve my family and friends,
for I’m not gone, I am merely out of sight.
A part of me burns bright in my daughters now,
so smile for me and laugh for me,
treasure our memories and be proud of me,
as I offer you my strength to go on with life.
