He was my grade 11 science teacher. For the first time I was actually interested in science. I still miss him and that class to this day and I think I will forever. I miss his dog videos he would show us. And I miss his wacky science experiments in class. And I miss his genuine heart for his students. I met my best friend in that class and a great male role model, mr. Werner. I have heard and seen the affect he had on my school and he will be forever cherished and missed.

I had the privilege of being David's classmate growing up, as well as playing hockey together. Even though we were never close outside of those activities, his infectious smile and positively is stuck in my mind so many years later. I know in my heart that unforgettable smile is being seen by the hosts of angels in heaven. Prayers and love being sent your way

On behalf of the Chilliwack Teachers' Association, I want to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of David.

We were deeply saddened to hear of his passing and our thoughts are with all who knew and loved him during this difficult time.

In a short period of time, we knew David as an exceptional individual who dedicated his life to education and to making a difference in the lives of his students. As a beloved member of our teaching community, he exemplified professionalism, compassion, and a genuine love for teaching. He even went as far as putting his name out there as a tutor for students who needed the extra support.

David's passion for education was evident. His commitment to students extended beyond the classroom as well. As a tutor, he was always there to lend a helping hand or offer support whenever needed.

Not only was David an outstanding teacher, but he was also a valued member of our Association.

David will be greatly missed by colleagues, students, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy as an educator and a kind-hearted individual will live on in the countless lives he touched throughout his short career. 

During this time of grief, we offer our heartfelt sympathies to David's family and friends. I hope that members of the family are able to reach out to me as I would love to create a bursary in his name for graduating students in Chilliwack.

Mr Werner was a great man and teacher. He was one of the few  that would have true and heartfelt conversations with their students if they were felling down. With every joke he told, put an even bigger smile on my face. I remember when the school talent show was happening and I wasn't gonna do it because I thought people would make fun of me again. He told me to do it anyway and to not care if people make fun of me and to just to have fun, which I did. We lost an amazing man and  I hope wherever he may be. In Heaven or as a ghost, he's having a good time and remembering all the good he did for people.  I give my condolences to his family and friends, and to wish for them to look back at all the happy moments you shared together.

Mr Werner was truly an amazing teacher and person. Werner was always so encouraging to all of his students, he helped me see potential in myself during our time together, he was so inclusive and encouraged everyone to try new things all the time. He brought so much light to the room and always knew the right time to crack a joke. That’s one of the things i admired most about him, it was his ability to bring joy to everyone around him. With his fun experiments, projects and dissections the whole class learnt a lot in a small amount of time. I remember one time, Werner and myself were talking about what i would like to do when i graduate high school, and i said real estate. We then sat there trying to come up with a slogan for my billboard if i ever got one.  After some thought Werner said how about “putting humans into homes” which we both laughed at because my last name is human, and it was so perfect. I will never forget that moment, and one day i wanna put that slogan on my real estate boards, not only was it and incredibly smart/ funny slogan, but now in remembrance of one of the most caring, funniest, kind, and intelligent people i have ever met. May David Werner rest in peace and let his legacy live on. I send my condolences.

Hi, my name is Michelle and my daughter Kim had the privilege of having David as her grade 8 Science teacher in his last year teaching at Walnut Grove. This being her first year in a large high school, she was understandably nervous! But David quickly became her favourite teacher! When Kim would recap her day her stories often including David. What a comfort it was for me as a parent to hear how excited she was for his class and how it settled her into high school. 
I was able to take her and a friend/fellow classmate to his service yesterday. What a beautiful service it was! The bible verse he loved and was preached on yesterday has often brought me comfort.
Kim would like to share some of her favourite memories of him and since she doesn't have a FB account, she will do it through my account so heads up you may get several different notes from me. She has so many great memories of him she may not get them all in under 2000 characters ;)
He made such a positive impact on her that I will forever be grateful for the short time she was able to be part of his orbit!

I originally met David in China. We taught together from 2016 to 2018. David and I went on a variety of adventures together, including different trips into Shanghai. Since I came back to Canada in 2019, David, Kyle and myself made an effort to stay in touch with one another. Despite the distance between us three (Calgary, Mississauga, and Chilliwack), we always made an effort to meet once a year. David would be one of the last faces I'd see in these reunions because he always drove me to the airport. 

I'll always remember his relentless positivity and how it made everyone around him better. He personally helped me through some tough times in life. He was wise beyond his years and his mature approach towards meeting Deanna and knowing she was the one is a testament to that. My fondest memories with David will be one of my last nights with him when we saw the movie Oppenheimer, hiked together in Chilliwack and had a heart-to-heart on the way to the airport.

As an only child, I found brotherhood through my friendships. I am proud to say that David was one of my closest friends and consider him to be a part of my family. I love you David!

I worked with David at Wgss as the special education assistant for his class a little more than a year ago. His classes were always fun and he was always dedicated to the children. I remember during the floods that year he had it in his mind to Kayak across the river to get to the school, but was stopped by city officials. He then instead found a way to drive his RV over to langley and lived there in order to attend to his class. He loved wings and beer, and we went many times after work. I'm more than grateful to have been able to share those memories with him. He will be missed, and the world will be a little darker without him.



Mr. Werner was the reason my daughter survived middle school.  

He emailed with me and created a plan for her when no one else would.  He ate lunch with her every day for a year when food was a problem.  He kept me updated and made his classroom a safe space for her.

There will never be enough words to express my gratitude for him.  The impact he made on her life was life long.  The world has truly lost someone who understood was love and kindness meant and did.

David and I worked together for multiple years running day camps. David was the reason that so many kids camp back each day, week, year. David had the ability (even pre-education career) to focus on the whole child. David created an incredibly fun environment but was always ready for the teachable moment with his calm and caring demeanor. My favourite memories will always be the incredible games of “monarch” (mafia) that we played at camp. I still don’t know how he was able to story tell with that level of engagement. David’s impact on the children/youth of our community is both lasting and immeasurable.

My Deepest Sympathy to Laura Werner and her Family on the loss of David.  I worked with Laura for many years.  Words fail in this situation to describe what you must be feeling.  I share in your sadness.  My heart goes out to your entire Family.

For the Werner Family,
Mr  Werner was the best science teacher I ever had.  He was funny, he was kind, he was also the only teacher that called me AlyKat.  I'm really going to miss my favorite science teacher a lot.  I'm crying as I write this.  If there was anything that wasn't in a science lesson that he taught me it would probably be, you never know how long you're going to live, whether it's just after years or days or even till you're 100th birthday, you should make the most of it.  And boy did he live a good life.  Though I only new him for a few months I feel as though we'd been friends for years, he told me and my fellow classmates what he did  the weekend before and even things he'd done years before deciding to teach.  I wish I could see him eve just for a few minutes so I could tell him how much he helped me get through tough days.  His class was one of two I looked forward to the most in my second semester.  During the semester I went from being the quietest in the room to being the most talkative (at least when Mr Werner talked to me). 
I really am going to miss the one teacher that talked to me like a best friend so much, and I wish for the best for his family, friends, wife and new child.  and that God would bless them all.  And may God Bless his kid and comfort his family.  Thank you Mr. Werner

I was privileged to work with David as his M.Ed. supervisor at UFV. From the first time I met David, to the time he worked so hard to ace his MEd defense, and after when we met post-graduation, I was so impressed with David's outlook, his generousity, his intelligence, his heart. We have all truly lost a wonderful, dedicated educator and truly special human being. To his family and friends - my sincere and heartfelt condolences. I did not meet you all, but my thoughts go out to you as you remember and celebrate David.

Mr Werner was my favourite physics teacher. I was never really a science person but he encouraged me to be his physics TA in 2018. I remember we had a super long debate on a test question, and he said I was the first student caught his error. He was also the first teacher congratulated me when I got into McGill and told me that was his dream school. some of my most fun memories happened in his classroom. I am sincerely grateful for his patience and guidance. Rest in peace Mr Werner, you will be remembered and missed by all your students. Sending all the prayers to the Werner family.

David Werner was a gifted and passionate mathematics educator who inspired his Sino-Canada students to improve inside and outside the classroom. He will be remembered and dearly missed by his students, fellow teachers, family, and friends. RIP Mr. David Werner.

Mr. Werner was a teacher where you could come to him with anything on your mind. I would never leave his classroom in a bad mood. I would always look forward to second block science every day in the first semester. I would always love seeing him around school and having conversations with him. He really was a gem. Mr. Werner is the reason I was able to pass science and see that I can do more than I believed. He is the reason I am here today and I will forever be grateful for the time I spent with him. He was a great man.❤️🕊️

Since I’ve been in school (pre school until now, grade 12) Mr. Werner has been the best teacher I’ve ever had. He not only made class easy, but he made his classes, and science fun. He was always there to listen or give advice to anybody. He was so passionate about teaching and he cared about his students so much. I was beyond lucky to have been one of his students, and he inspired me, and had an impact on my life I’ll forget. Thank you Werner, for everything. ❤️

David was a member of our Masters class at UFV from 2019-2021. He was always smiling, loved his dog Gauss and even taught his dog to do math. Deepest condolences to all who knew him. He was a lovely and quirky young man. 

I will always remember David as being all heart. He had such a generous spirit that just made room for everyone around him. I worked with him through his MEd. He was dedicated, hard-working, positive, and focussed on giving back to those who had mentored him. He was a gift to a students, his colleagues, and the profession. My heart goes out to his family.
