I worked on farms for some time then I went to Ocean Falls to work in the Lumber Mills. In 1948 I as a Fireman with the CPR, firing steam engines. When the diesels came in 1957 there was little work for Fireman and so I worked with Pioneer Grain from 1957 to 1964 as a grain elevator agent in Milo, Alberta. When the Country Elevators were being closed and opening large Central Grain terminals job security was a question. In 1967 I applied for a Correctional Officers position with Correctional Services Canada in Drumheller, Alberta and worked there till 1972. I was successful in getting a position at the Mountain Institute in BC as a Supervisor of Institutional Services until 1977. I then applied for a similar position at Matsqui Institution in Abbotsford, I was successful and moved to Abbotsford. I retired in 1996 as a Material Manager.
My dear Lucy and I had four children Gail (Daryl Phillips), Brian (Susanne), Doug (Susan Gibson) and Darren our youngest who passed away in 2007. I lost the love of my life in 2016, we had been married for 64 years at her passing.
