Emil Roman Galye

He moved to Vancouver in his late teens and there he married his sweetheart from Jedburgh, Betty, on August 20, 1955; they were married for 61 years. They moved from Vancouver to Richmond, then on to Surrey and finally to Abbotsford.

Emil worked for over 40 years in a wire rope factory as a shipper/receiver/charge hand. He was very active with his family, and they made many road trips to Saskatchewan to visit with family there; family was very important to Emil. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends and often he and Betty would have people over to play cards and visit. He enjoyed giving to people and was always quick to give help to anyone when needed.

He enjoyed sports and had volunteered to coach his daughter’s softball and indoor hockey teams. Of course, he enjoyed armchair coaching when his favorite teams were playing on TV.

He had a green thumb and enjoyed growing an assortment of vegetables and flowers. Emil and Betty enjoyed going to the local casino (the “office”) to have some fun time, enjoy a meal and sometimes meet up with friends.

For the past three years, Emil resided at Worthington Pavilion in Abbotsford. He enjoyed living there and appreciated the compassionate care he received. He loved to participate in all the programs and had made many good friends there. Emil was very competitive and always enjoyed it when he won at bingo. He enjoyed socializing and visiting with anyone who lived at or visited Worthington and he had a great sense of humor. He always kept a good supply of mini chocolate bars in his room for anyone who wanted one.

Emil passed away peacefully at 91 and where he wanted to be, back home at Worthington Pavilion so he could be near his friends. In his final moments, he was surrounded by family and those who loved him and cared for him.

Emil was loved by so many and will be deeply missed, especially by his daughters who unanimously voted him Father of the Year every Fathers’ Day. They take comfort in knowing that he and Betty are together again.
