Evelyn Klok

Evelyn Klok passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025 at the Hospice in Mission Memorial Hospital" One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek, that I may dwell in the House of the Lord all the days of my Life" Psalm 27:4. She is now in the arms of her loving father in Heaven , joining her husband and son George.

Evelyn was a much loved matriarch of the Klok family who dedicated her life to providing a warm and nurturing Christian home for her husband and Children. The family often enjoyed her Nasi Goreng and Bami Goreng along with Oillebollen on New Year's Eve.

Evelyn was born February 10, 1935 in Andijk , a city in North Holland. She spent her early years growing up in the Netherlands where her Family was impacted by the Second World War. Evelyn recalls going to school in wooden shoes and woolen socks with two brothers Simon and John. Evelyn left the Netherlands in April 1948 with her family by boat to Canada. They arrived in St Catharines, Ontario, Evelyn remembers how the family was overdressed , wearing sweaters and winter coats on a hot spring day. The family helped on the farm picking fruit. As Evelyn got older she went to Toronto to work , she worked first for a Doctor taking care of their children and then she worked at Catholic Hospital serving trays. Then she attended R.B.I. The Reformed Bible Institute in Grand Rapids Michigan. This is where she met Henry Klok. They got married on August 28, 1958 and shortly after bought a house in Toronto. The couple started their family with the birth of Richard William, Then a year later Marilyn Winefred came along and 11 months later Charles Andrew Douglas, the two years later Paula Anne. They had boarder's to help pay the bills , it was a busy housefull. Henry applied for a job as a minister in Northern AB. They moved to Tawatinaw, where Louis Robert and George Jonathan were born.

From Northern Alberta the family moved to Lacombe where they lived for a couple years. Then it was off to Ladner, BC where the family had connections. After a year of construction, Henry decided to start a landscaping business, Klok's Landscaping. Mom thought he was crazy, that was a kids job. The family moved again to the outskirts of Ladner and for many years ran Klok's Landscaping, we even did Diefenbaker park. Evelyn tended to the needs of the growing family along with chickens, a couple of dogs, cats, budgies, rabbits and a horse. After several children had moved on from high school the family moved again to Aldergrove and then to Abbotsford, where two houses were built , after these endeavors it was time to relax and move to sunny Okanagan. They lived near the lake at Parker cove for a while and enjoyed the sun. This was the start of their retirement. They also got a trailer in Sky valley Palm Springs and enjoyed a couple winters there. But they were missing staying with family and decided to move to Telkwa to be with their son George and Daughter and her family. Evelyn enjoyed living close to her daughter and son and loved tending to the garden. But Dad was feeling older and they decided to live in Silver King court in Smithers. Dad needed more care and was moved to full quality care. This is where he passed on followed three months later by his son George.

Evelyn lived in Silver Court for a few more years and then decided she wanted to be closer to family. When a spot in Meno home in Abbotsford opened up she took it. She was happy to be near family and people she knew from before. She lived there 2 years and after a visit with all her great grandchildren and grandchildren she ended up in the hospital and was diagnosed with a blockage in her bowel , it was removed, but then we were told the news that she had stage 4 cancer. She now needed 24 hour care so she was moved to the Mission Memorial Hospice and lived her remaining months. Thanks for the special care there from all the nurses and volunteers.

Evelyn is survived by her 5 children, Richard, Marilyn, Charles, Paula and Louis and 14 Grandchildren and 12 Great grandchildren.
