Frank (Franz) Merkens, 85, of Abbotsford, British Columbia, passed away on March 15, 2023, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Jackie, his daughter Josie Wiebe and husband Stan, his son Mike Merkens and wife Judy, as well as six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Frank was born to parents Joseph and Christina Merkens on October 18, 1937, in Buchloe, Germany. During his childhood, he enjoyed swimming, skiing and spending time with his friends. He went to occupational school, where he received his journeyman papers for precision mechanics and worked for eight months as a fitter for measuring instruments. He then immigrated to Canada in 1957 and settled in Richmond, BC. He was unable to find a job in his field of study, so he began to work for a local furniture manufacturer, where he met the love of his life Jackie Dees. They were married on April 22, 1960.
After coming to Canada, Frank enjoyed hockey, camping, travelling, photography, painting, restoring furniture, and especially antique furniture. Frank was known for his furniture upholstery business, J&F Upholstery which he operated for 36 years. His slogan during this time was, "We do it right or not at all."
What Frank loved the most was spending time with family and friends. He was also known for his faith in Jesus his Saviour, whom he came to know after meeting his wife and her family. His faith in Jesus grew and carried him through many trials resulting in a life filled with abundant joy and blessings. This is a faith that he eagerly shared with his family and friends. His faith in Jesus is our heritage and legacy. We are so blessed.
