Gary Phillip Schroeder

Gary was born in Matsqui, British Columbia, on November 2, 1965. He was the third child and second son of Heinrich and Helene Schroeder. He grew up on a farm on Ross Road, moving into town during his teens. Gary was a long time Abbotsford resident except for two years when he lived in Chilliwack, and until he and Margie moved to Nanaimo on July 1, 2025. From his first marriage, Gary has three wonderful children: Zachary, Brandon, and Amy. Gary and Margie married in 2001.

Gary worked for almost 20 years at a Book Bindery in Surrey, before earning a Diploma in Computer Information Systems and opening his own, short-lived, computer company. His working career ended at his favourite place, MCC Clothing Etc in Clearbrook. In his growing up years, Gary attended Ebenezer Mennonite Church in Abbotsford. This is where he started playing guitar, learning to lead worship, a love he continued all his life. Gary also loved fishing, kayaking, walking the beach, hanging out by an outdoor fire, as well as attending football and hockey games.

Gary and Margie were married over 24 years. He is survived by his wife, Margie, three children- Zachary (Stephanie), Brandon (Kat) and Amy (Austin)- four grandchildren-Amira, Elayna, James and Kingsley, his mom-Helene, three siblings- Christine (Colin), Alvin (Janice), and David (Joy), as well as a large extended family.
