Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 27, 1939, Glen wasn’t one for half-measures. He spent almost four decades teaching Econ and History at Grand Rapids Christian High School. He coached golf, baseball, and swimming, adding a competitive edge to everything he touched. During the summer, Glen ran his seasonal painting business but reserved his rare days off for faithfully driving the family out to the grandparents' farm in Nobleford, Alberta.
Glen’s first marriage to Janet (Vander Woude) spanned over 40 years until her passing in 2013. They raised four children—Chad (Michele) with their children Caleb (Sanah), Joshua, and Esther; Shawn (Rowena); Kara Vander Woude; and Keith Boelema. The family gatherings were often filled with spirited discussions and plenty of eye-rolls. His extended clan includes Tony and Sue Vander Woude, Clinton and Sharon Vander Woude, Steve and Carolyn Boxum, and Kathy Boelema, alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who all have their own stories about him.
In 2020, Glen found new companionship with Suzy Lewis, and their years together were marked by loving laughter, travel adventures, and occasional debates over who was the better pool-player. He was a loyal supporter of his three grandkids’ hockey and daughter’s brewing.
He had a well-known passion for golf, ice cream, and Scrabble, and those close to Glen knew his stubborn streak was matched only by his generosity of time. While faith was a big part of his life, it was his quick wit, sharp mind, and loving (if occasionally infuriating) personality that truly defined him.
Glen will be remembered as a loving family man who rarely backed down from a challenge, especially if it involved a good debate or a big scoop of ice cream.
Glen will be deeply mourned by his wife Suzy with her whole extended family, and his extended family and friends. A special man who was loved by all.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Sevenoaks Alliance Church, located at 2575 Gladwin Rd, Abbotsford, BC, V2T 3N8, Canada.
