August 7, 1953 – April 23, 2017
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Grant Neil Murdoch Allan at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster on Sunday, April 23, 2017. Grant was loved by his family and friends and will be deeply grieved. Mourning his loss are his beloved wife Margaret, daughters Katherine, Jennifer (William) and Heather, and grandchildren, Grant, Gwenyth and Jonathan. He is survived as well by his aunt, Jeanie, and cousins David (Sue), Barbara (Dan) and Elli.
Grant was born in Vancouver and spent his early and elementary years in Port Alberni, Nelson and Surrey, before his parents settled in Vancouver. Upon high school graduation he apprenticed with Weldwood of Canada in Toba Inlet, and completed his certification as a heavy equipment mechanic with the City of Vancouver. He met and married his wife Margaret, and they moved north to Dawson Creek a year later to accept a position with Finning Canada, his employer until the closure of that branch office. They enjoyed 14 happy years in Dawson Creek and Pouce Coupe, raising their daughters and embedding themselves in community life. Grant’s brief employment with Hub Fire Engines precipitated their move to Abbotsford in 1992, after which he returned to Finning, working in the Vancouver Oil Lab, and then in the Surrey and Richmond offices as a warranty claims technician until his retirement in 2012.
Grant loved his family and grandchildren and shared his enthusiasm and many talents with his friends, neighbours, and church family. He enjoyed working in his shop and travelling with Margaret. He invested deeply in building a new church facility, and then had the fun of being the building manager in its first year.
