Hello Peters family,  had no idea that Henry "graduated" till a few minutes ago when I tried to find a  contact number to call him. Please let me explain; but first I would like to extend sympathy to your family at this late time  as you continue on without this special "family man" . I've never done this before, so I'll try to share why I'm  attempting to put my thoughts into words. To share the story, I need to go back a few years to when I first met Henry in Sardis, B.C. We had recently moved to Chilliwack in 1988, and after finding a job at Dargatz Glass in 1989 installing doors and windows, liked the area and thought it was a great place to live. While on glazing projects in the Sardis area, I bumped into Henry in Wells Landing where he was building many homes at that time.  We were impressed with the area, and after talking with him further felt that we would like him to build us a house. We agreed on a split level house to be constructed on Beechnut Ave. as per his quote, and were excited to see the progress  during that  winter. The experience from start to finish was great, and  we really appreciated the special attention and care Henry  provided in the process of building our new dream home.  The following year after moving into our new  home that Henry built, Dargatz Glass got busy on the Sunshine Coast, and asked if I would be willing to help out at their new shop in Gibsons. That was almost 30 years ago, and fast forward to this past November; while my wife was looking through some old slides for a family history project, I came across slides I had forgotten I had. Here was a stack of slides that started when the lot on Beechnut was purchased, and all the stages of that house building project to completion. After looking at these photos this past week,  I decided that I would like to call up Henry and thank him again for the great service he provided  for our family. Obviously I'm too late,  so am sharing my thank you to Henry  with you. God bless you!

Thank you Eric. for the welcome for Hank "to that room" in God's mansion.  Hank is such an integral part of our family ever since he married my little sister Phyllis.  They were such a beautiful team. 

The Nickel family so happily drove to Hank and Phyllis's home in Abbotsford for an evening visit, for a BBQ, for pool table  tournaments or any reason at all.  They were the consumnate hosts! 

Hank and  my husband Al loved little projects.  They stumbled on the idea of making "good" farmer sausage.  So they found a butcher who would follow their "recipe" using good beef and pork roasts instead of "trimmings".  Then they built a smoke house.  No one ever made better sausages!

There was the year Lynn and Elaine wanted to add to their little house on First Avenue.  Hank took on the project with Lynn as his apprentice.  Lynn learned so much from Hank, and that continued forever.

My 40 year old handicapped Grandson Joshua in N.S,, who was looking forward to a visit in April, was heartbroken to hear that Hank had passed away.

Hank will live with us in our memories forever.



Uncle Hank was best remembered for his one of a kind laugh that was distinguishable from afar !    He had a kind and caring demeanor.   When he spoke it was with purposeful.   I never recall an unkind word but did get my share of well considered advice.    Lots of memories watching the 'elders' gather up in the barn to test  some newly brewed concoction served with a smoked meat varietal.   

A decorated builder and provider, with a love for his family and friends .  Its truly a shame, and strangely coincidental, that it was his big ol' heart that just couldn't keep giving it out for us all.

 John 14:1-4 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."

Godspeed to that room, Uncle Hank !
