Mr. Huibrecht "Herb" Boone

December 7, 1940-February 8, 2025

Herb Boone passed away in Abbotsford on February 8, 2025 at the age of 84 after a courageous fight with cancer. Herb was born December 7, 1940 in Dishoek, Zeeland in the Netherlands to Johannes and Catharina Boone. His older sisters were Cathrien, Nel, and Mien and soon after Herb was born his younger sister Neel was born, and then finally, a younger brother – Piet, joined the family as well. The family was raised in neighbouring Koudekerke, where they had moved to be closer to work, church, and school.

Herb left home to serve in the Dutch army at age 18, and thoroughly enjoyed his time as a transport truck driver, getting the chance to see the rest of Holland, Belgium, France and Spain. He loved to tell humorous stories of his army adventures, which usually ended with him saying “Driving a truck was the best job I could have ever had in the army!”

Herb immigrated to southern Alberta in 1960, where he worked in various industries before ending up in Edmonton. It was there that he met Ria in 1962, and married in 1966. They had three children in Edmonton before moving to Langley in 1975. Herb had become an autobody mechanic in Edmonton and excelled in his trade, although he always told his family that his real passion was gardening and renovating, something that he picked up as regular work when he and Ria moved to Abbotsford in 1993.

Herb was a member of Living Hope Christian Reformed Church in Abbotsford for over 30 years and volunteered for the seniors’ ministry alongside Ria.

Herb is survived by his wife Ria of 58 years, his 5 siblings, his 3 children: Michelle (Andy), Jonathan (Karin) and Natasha (Sean), 11 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

Herb will be remembered for his love for his family, his willingness to help out, and for his easy-going nature. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him and knew him.

The family extends their gratitude and appreciation to those who supported, cared and prayed for Herb through his journey with cancer.
