He was born on April 16, 1925 in Beechy, Saskatchewan, the fifth of seven children born to Bernhard and Helen Nickel (nee Kliewer).
He moved to B.C. with his parents in 1947 where he met and married Zelma Sawatzky on March 20, 1948. She predeceased him in December 2014 after 66 years of marriage.
He is survived by his sons John (Charlotte) and Elmer (Ricka), 6 grandchildren and their spouses, 6 great grandchildren and numerous extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents and all his siblings.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at Nikkel Hall at Central Heights Church, 1661 McCallum Road in Abbotsford on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm.
