Lily Schellenberg passed away at the Mayfair Senior Living complex in Abbotsford, BC on May 12, 2017 following a period of illness. Lily is survived by her three children, Leon of Winnipeg, MB, Linda of Abbotsford, BC, and Lyle (Linda) of Salem, OR; her three grandchildren, Angela of Salem, OR, John of Bend, OR, and Michael (Deanna) of Abbotsford, BC; and her two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Alyssa of Abbotsford, BC. She is preceded in death by her husband, Art Schellenberg, with whom she shared an inseparable bond for over 62 years.
Lily was born in Brandon, MB on August 20, 1932 and raised in the Carberry area. She met her husband Art in Gladstone, MB and they married on Oct. 20, 1951. In 1972, Lily and Art moved to Shuswap Lake, BC where Art started an underground drilling business. The same business eventually took them to Langley, BC in 1978 and Salem, OR in 1983. Throughout those years, Lily was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and spent her time looking after her family and helping with the family business. Lily and Art spent their retirement living between their properties on the Cowlitz River near Toledo, WA and Rancho Casa Blanca in Indio, CA. Eventually in 2000, they built a house at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Penticton and lived there for 11 years before moving to Sun Pointe Village in Kelowna, BC in 2011.
Lily was an extremely sociable and outgoing person, always willing to strike up a conversation with anyone she met. Everybody loved Lily’s kind and caring spirit and she made an impression on all with her big , beautiful, seemingly never-ending smile. She was generous and loving, and always put the needs of her family above her own. Over the last six years, Lily struggled with complications that arose from her stroke, the loss of her husband, and various other health issues, including breast cancer. She endured these challenges and adversity with a level of courage and strength that inspired all who knew and cared for her. Lily will be deeply missed by her family and she will live on in our hearts forever.
