Margaret lived a full life and we are confident this joyful and humble woman was welcomed by her saviour, Jesus Christ into heaven as she ended her earthly journey at 6:25 am on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Holmberg House Hospice Residence. Margaret was a consistent anchor and cared deeply for her family, friends and strangers, demonstrating and declaring her love for Jesus in relevant ways.
Born to Heinrich & Susanna (Braun) Siemens in Neuendorf, Ukraine on October 26, 1930, she was the sixth of eight children and was loved by her siblings, Heinrich, Tina, Dietrich, Suse, Gerhard, Mika and Peter.
During her early years, Margaret preferred the outdoors and took a keen interest in sledding instead of school. She grew up to be woman of grace, beauty and charm and could cook, sew, and garden with the best of the best. She wasn’t afraid of hard work, no matter the task.
Margaret’s family fled the Ukraine in October 1943 and ended up in a refugee camp in Germany after World War II. On May 7, 1948, Margaret’s family boarded the Charlton Monarch, bound for Buenos Aires and from there on to Paraguay, where she met the love of her life George Braun. They were married in Neuland, Paraguay and enjoyed each other’s company for just over 54 years. Margaret was very involved in her faith community at Eben-Ezer Mennonite church and was famous for her weekly Saturday morning family breakfast for whoever was in town. The last decade of her life was spent at Primrose Gardens, which she thoroughly enjoyed and made many new friends there. She especially enjoyed walking at Mill Lake Park.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband, George, after 54 years of marriage; her son George (Sheri); her daughter Erica Heppner (Brian); and her sons-in-law Roy Pogue and Vince Ferrario.
She is survived by her children Henry Braun (Velma), Erna Schmidt (Herb), Rudy (Ruth Ann), Erwin (Connie), and Linda Threlfall (Ian); her brother Gerhard Siemens (Maria); her sister-in-law Mary Siemens; 24 grandchildren (18 spouses); 47 great-grandchildren (4 spouses); and one great-great-grandchild.
Many thanks to Primrose Gardens staff, Abbotsford Regional ER hospital staff, in particular Nurse Ashley and the Staff at Holmberg House Hospice Residence, where Margaret’s 95-year earthly journey ended and eternity began.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Eben-Ezer Mennonite Church, 2051 Windsor Road, Abbotsford, BC.
