Nancy Joyce Barkman

Nancy Joyce Barkman was born on September 25, 1931, in Steinbach, MB to Peter F. and Amanda Barkman. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Abbotsford, BC on April 15, 2023, at the age of 91 years old.

Nancy met the Lord at a young age and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. Her baptism signified her acceptance of Christ. On May 8, 1953, Nancy married Leonard Barkman and they enjoyed over 69 years of marriage. Together, they have two sons and they moved to Abbotsford, BC in 1972.

In her younger years in Steinbach, MB Nancy worked at the Steinbach Hatchery and a furniture store called Midtown Shopping. While in Abbotsford, BC she helped in the kitchen at the Valhaven Home and worked in the greenhouses at Warmerdam Bulb Co.

Nancy’s perfectionism shone through in her hobbies like crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed setting puzzles, reading, playing crossword puzzles and a good challenging game of Scrabble. She had a love for beautiful flowers and dishes. She spoiled her loved ones with her wonderful home-cooked meals.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband Leonard, son Jim and wife Shirley, son Gerry and wife Nancy; grandchildren Charlene, Darren (Brittani), Christina, Chelsea, Anastasia (Brett); great-grandchildren Grey, Emi, Nova, all from Abbotsford, BC. She leaves behind two brothers Don (Sue) Barkman and Roger (Marilyn) Barkman both from Steinbach, MB, and her brother-in-law Robert (Nicole) Froese from Winnipeg, MB. Predeceased by her parents and her sister Kathy Froese. Nancy will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who knew her.

The family is grateful for all those who have sent their condolences, thoughts, and prayers. Thank you for your sympathy and kindness.

A visitation for Nancy will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, BC V2T2X5. A memorial service will occur Friday, April 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Church of God in Christ, 29623 Downes Road, Abbotsford, BC V4X1Z8.
