The children of Norma Bernice (Sather) Harder Schlamp, born January 12, 1932, wish to inform her extended family and friends that Norma went to be with her Lord and Saviour on June 8th, 2017 at Abbotsford, BC.
She leaves behind 6 of her siblings, her children, Janice Dueck (Len), Lionel Harder (Judy), Heather Hanthorn (Chris), Brad Harder (Shelley), Rhoda Parent (Warren), Lois Neal (Dale), Iona Wharton (Jeff); grandchildren Tricia, Ami, Dustin, Shane, Jesse, Christopher, Hansel, Josiah, Raine, Jordan, Victoria, Bradley, Connor, Spencer, Olivia, and Drue, 23 great-grandchildren and her 2nd husband, Henry Schlamp.
Norma was a loving and devoted wife to our father, Irvin Harder for 49 years, who pre-deceased her in 1999. She was also a caring mother to us. She will be deeply missed, although her passing brings us sadness it also brings us many joyful thoughts and memories.
Our parents met at the Peace River Bible Institute where they both attended classes and later on in their marriage they became active members of the Grande Prairie Alliance Church. Being alumni, they continued to be very involved and supportive of the bible school until our fathers death.
Mom enjoyed cooking, camping and caring for Dads hunting guests when he was guiding which he did every fall. There was nothing they liked more then camping out on a cut line in the Saddle Hills together. They also loved a good farm auction which always took them back to the early days of their marriage when they farmed the Harder land in the Laglace/Wembley area.
Our mother had a very giving spirit and no one ever left our home unfed, nor turned away if in need of a place to stay. Once our large family home was vacated by us children, our parents began filling it up with numerous exchange students from all over the world. They enjoyed every aspect of this new role and our mother continued to have students living with her long after Dad passed.
Norma is survived by her second husband, Henry J. Schlamp, who she married in 2005. For their 12 years of marriage they resided in High River AB and then in Abbotsford BC.
Norma was the 5th daughter of Soren and Thordis Sather, who came to Canada in 1928 from Norway. She was predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Doris, Rande, and Toy.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses and care aides who cared for our mother over the last 5 months in hospital, and at Tabour Village in Abbotsford.
There will be a private family gathering at a later date.
Arrangements under the direction of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Abbotsford, BC.
