Sadly, Lloyd Bennett passed away at home in Abbotsford, British Columbia, on June 10, 2025. He was born July 6, 1935, in Dryden, Ontario and spent his younger years in Vermilion Bay, where he met the love of his life, Siegrid “Sigi” Bennett (nee Sommer), with whom he shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. He was predeceased by his siblings, Shirley Bennett, Jacqueline “Jackie” Chaston, and Garnet “Garnie” Bennett. Lloyd has two children, Mark (Tricia) and Monique (Randy). He has four grandchildren, Alexa, Caelan, Mackenzie, and Jack (Sydney). He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Lloyd and Sigi spent most of their adult lives on the Lake of the Woods in Kenora. Some of their most cherished memories were the lifestyle they enjoyed at their home they called “Windhaven.” The grandchildren spent every summer at “Windhaven” and cherished Opa and have many memories of watching old western films, creating Oscar-worthy family movies, and letting the days roll by on the lake. Opa taught the kids how to build, fish, boat, explore, play games and eat ice cream for breakfast. Every day spent with Opa was the best day, since he was the most loving, fun, and pragmatic person. You would be very lucky to have known him.
Lloyd worked for over 40 years in the forestry industry. He was a kind, honest, tell-it-straight kind of guy with a sense of humour and style. He was an avid reader and spent years perfecting the family tree so that his family would know where they came from. He had a knack for remembering details about his life, books or movies and would share them often. He was a very special person.
Lloyd and Sigi moved to Abbotsford, British Columbia, in 2011 to escape the snow and cold but their hearts remained on the lake. He never wanted to miss his weekly “Kaffeeklatsch.” Lloyd loved his family “to pieces” and would tell them often.
We love and miss you Dad!
