Teresa "Teri" Ellen Regts

Teresa “Teri” Ellen Regts (Murphy) was born June 27, 1944 in Kingston, Ontario and died on November 4, 2025 at Holmberg House in Abbotsford, BC. Teri was predeceased by her parents Bernard & Beatrice Murphy, brothers Cecil Murphy and Vince Murphy, and most recently by her beloved husband, Ed Regts, on September 22, 2025. Left to mourn this loss are daughters Jacquelin (Jonathan), Jodi (Steve) and treasured granddaughter Gemma, sisters Carmel Foster and Rita Murphy, brother Michael Murphy, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless dear friends.

Teri graduated from St Joseph’s School of Nursing, Hotel Dieu Hospital, in Kingston. She was awarded the general proficiency medal for her dedication, initiative and excellence in both academic and clinical nursing, and began a fulfilling career that would span more than four decades. She continued her professional development with a diploma in nursing education from the University of Windsor, where she also met her husband Ed. They moved to Winnipeg for Ed’s career with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Subsequently, they moved with baby daughter Jodi to British Columbia to begin Ed’s civilian career, and less than two years later, daughter Jacquelin was born.

In addition to her nursing roles, Teri found immense fulfillment as a nursing instructor at Fraser Valley College (now UCFV), with a particular emphasis on geriatric nursing and compassionate care. She had great affection for her students in the Long-Term Care Aid program. For many graduates, this program was their first step towards becoming LPNs, RNs and other careers in the medical field.

A devout Catholic, Teri was an active member of St Anne’s and St James Catholic Churches in Abbotsford. She was a reader, Eucharistic Minister, Catechism teacher, and volunteer with the Society of St Vincent De Paul and St Jean Brebeuf Regional High School. An enthusiastic baker, her signature Chewy Skor Toffee Bits cookies were a feature at church functions and fundraisers.

Later in life, Teri discovered her “inner athlete” and spent many joyful hours at aquafit and other group fitness classes, in addition to regularly walking the trails at Fishtrap Creek with Ed. She loved to participate in book clubs and socialize with her friends, but she found her greatest joy in her role as “Nana” to her only granddaughter, Gemma. From the time that Gemma was an infant through to the start of grade-school, Nana would commute to downtown Vancouver on the West Coast Express multiple times a week to spend time with Gemma, playing for hours and walking the seawall around Yaletown.

A memorial mass will be held at St Barnaby’s Catholic Church in Seeley’s Bay, Ontario on December 13, 2025 at 11:00am.
