Vic was born on November 12, 1949 to Abram and Elisabeth Hiebert in Steinbach Manitoba. Growing up with not a lot of material wealth, he wanted desperately to go to Bible camp as a young boy so he was given the opportunity to go to camp if he would learn 100 Bible verses by heart. He took up the challenge and made his wish come true.
Vic attended Columbia Bible College after high school and it was here that he met his wife Charlotte and they were married in November of 1970. Vic took his BC bride to Winnipeg and they lived and worked there until the summer of 1971 when they moved back to BC to care for Charlotte’s ailing father.
South Abbotsford was their home church and Vic was active in the church choir, youth and college and career leadership, and leadership in small groups.
Vic’s community service included being on the board of Burden Bearers of Canada, Columbia Bible College, Stillwood Camp and Conference Centre and active in the Sowers Ministry.
Vic learned construction and built many houses in the Fraser Valley. He bought Clearbrook Millworks which became Clearbrook Windows where he manufactured wood windows. He changed direction after the sale of the window business, studied to become a financial advisor, and successfully worked in this field for 12 years until his retirement in January 2014.
Vic spent his recreational time travelling with Charlotte and particularly enjoyed walking, biking, fishing, and golfing.
Vic was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Ed Penner.
Vic is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charlotte; his four children (& spouses) Paul Hiebert (Melanie), Kelly Hiebert (Andrea), Robyne Adlam (Don), and Stacy Cole (Justin), his eight grandchildren Rhys, Rachael, Aeryn, Olin, Jude, Graham, William and Lawson.
Brothers Walter (Marlene), Bill (Marty), Dennis (Carole), his sisters Ruth (John Giesbrecht), Lydia (Ed Penner), and twin sister Vi (Gary Blakeburn.
Brother-in-laws Len Krahn (Grace), Gerry Klassen (Maryanne), Bud Krahn (Kim) and Gerry Friesen (Bonny).
Thank you for all the prayers and support for the family over the past weeks. Vic will be remembered as a kind humble man that embraced life and loved his family and friends.
He will be dearly missed.
