Bill was born to Jacob and Susan Wieler on November 8, 1949, in Steinbach, MB. His early career in banking with CIBC, brought him to Thunder Bay, ON and it was here where he met Katalin ‘Kitty’, the love of his life. Shortly after they married, Bill and Kitty moved to Manitoba, where Bill turned his hand to training as a Journeyman Electrician – the profession he held until he retired and would see two of his sons take up after him. Whatever work Bill did, he did it with pride and care, and without complaint.
After 25 years of cold Manitoba winters, Bill and Kitty moved west to BC for warmer climes with Vernon and Nathan, while Kevin decided to stay on in Manitoba. Bill became known in the trades community as a knowledgeable and skilled electrician, and in the church community as a Godly man. After retirement, Bill could always be found ‘in the shop’ at home, tinkering on an automotive repair project, building something from scratch, or finding new and creative ways to display things with lights. That is, unless he’d fallen asleep in the middle of a TV program. Quick with a ‘dad joke’ and an easy warm smile, Bill was known as a kind and funny man. He was also a helper – never for glory or praise, he would be busy in the background, attending to all the ‘small things’ to keep the lives of his friends and family easy. Near or far, if you called him for help he would be there.
Bill will be greatly missed by his wife, Kitty, sons Kevin (Kathy), Vernon (Sarah), and Nathan (Rachelle), and granddaughters Suzy, Faith, and Kelly-Anne. He will also be missed by his sisters Eva (Mike), Martha (Jerry), Trudie (Ernie), his brother Gordon, and all the extended family. We have comfort knowing Bill is rejoicing in eternity, reunited with his mother, Susan, and with his siblings John, Marrian, Hilda, and sister-in-law Maxine, who went on ahead.
The memorial service for Bill will held at 2pm on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, meeting at Grace Church, 2087 McMillan Road, Abbotsford. Details regarding the livestream of this service will follow.
The family will also arrange a service in MB in the summer of 2022; details will be forthcoming.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gideons, in Bill’s name via their ‘Gideon Card’ program http://sendtheword.org that they may continue to put the word of God into the hands of many, placing bibles in hotel rooms around the world.
