

Alvin McGowan England, 83, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011, at a local medical center. A memorial service will be 2:00p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastor Michael Reed officiating under the direction of Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd St., Abilene, TX.
Alvin was born in Kosicusko, Mississippi on November 18, 1927 to Sidney and Gladys (Lee) England.
He owned and loved to fly private planes and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Alvin loved to travel and take train excursions, loved to read and also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. He was a swimming pool builder and owned and operated Balboa Pools in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Alvin thought his most important mission in life was to love his wife and children. He was married to his bride Pat for 49 years and was tireless in his devotion to her. When she became ill and bed stricken for several months before her death he rarely left her side even sleeping next to her hospital bed at night. He always did what he could to help is children by spending time with them and would fix things or buy things that made their life easier. He was also a staunch supporter of recycling because he thought it was important to preserve the environment for future generations.
Alvin also served his country in the United States Air Force.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Patricia England; a sister, Sidney, a brother, Malcom England; and a son, James England.
Survivors include three sons, Alvin England of Abilene, Steven England and wife, Deborah of Abilene, Michael England of New Jersey; a daughter, Anne Levy Kanuch and husband, Wayne of Houston; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
