

Bernie James Hehn, 72, of Abilene, Texas passed peacefully into the arms of His Savior, Friday, October 30, 2020. He was born in Pollock, South Dakota on May 16, 1948 to Albert and Emma Hehn. Bernie graduated from Pollock High School in 1967 where he lettered in Football and Basketball. He entered the United States Air Force shortly thereafter. He served 20 years in the military in logistics and retired in Abilene, Texas in May of 1988. After retirement he went to work for Lockheed Martin, then Boeing and ended up at Texas Aerospace. In 2007, he semi retired and went to work at First Church of the Nazarene as their maintenance and janitorial person. Bernie was married to Carol Dougherty Hehn on June 30, 1973, at Westover AFB in Massachusetts. 4 months later they were stationed in Texas, where he remained until his death. Bernie was an active member of First Church of the Nazarene serving in several different areas. He had a passion for the Lord, his family and his 54 Ford which accompanied him from base to base. Bernie is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol Hehn, his son, Robert Hehn and wife Julia, 2 grandchildren, Ella Grace and Landon Noble, his brother Terry Hehn and wife Shirley, his mother-in-law, Lillian Dougherty, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Quenzer Hehn and his father, Albert Hehn.
A memorial service will be held at the church on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the First Church of the Nazarene in Abilene, Texas.
