Bertha Walker Harris was born November 15,1923 in Callahan County, Texas to Homer & Adna Rice Walker. She graduated as valedictorian from Bayou School in 1941. She married William Durward Harris on September 2, 1942. They made their home in Abilene, Texas until his death in 1981.
Bertha was a meter maid for the Abilene Police Department and worked for Aileen's Manufacturing for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Forrest and Wilbur; and her husband.
She is survived by a son, Ronnie Harris of Abilene; daughters, Shelia (Donn) Rodgers, and Lisa Compton all of San Antonio; grandchildren, Mark (Chanda) Harris, Rhonda (Kyle) Boggess, Melanie (Joel) Goodart, Michael (Valerie) Harris, Shannan Brice, Casey Wasson, Taylor (Hilary) Compton, Carie Compton and Travis Compton; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
