He was raised in Abilene, and although he moved throughout the years, Matt returned because Abilene was home and "where he wanted to hang his hat". Matt was an EMT III here in the 1970's. In Oregon in the 1980's, he was a psychiatric mental health therapist. In 1983, he became a proud father to his son, Phillip Matthew, and in 1987 to his daughter, Diana Mae. In 2000, Matt was a top car salesman in Abilene, but an injury from an accident in Oregon required a knee replacement and left him disabled. He was always known for his big heart, good cooking, great sense of humor, and "horse trading skills".
Matt is survived by his son, Phillip; daughter, Diana; adopted children, Andrew and Leah. He loved all of his children very much. Matt is also survived by his brother, Mark and wife, Margi, and their children, Susan, Stephanie, and Ian; his former wife and friend, Loretta; his best friend Reginal Strickland; and his faithful Boston Terrier, Abbey Lynn, who never left his side. Matt will be missed by many.
