Clara Louise Mohr passed away peacefully on July 2, 2018 at 91 years of age. On Friday, July 6th, graveside services will be held at 9:45am at Elmwood Cemetery followed by a 10:30am service at First Central Presbyterian Church.
Louise was born on August 18, 1926 in Empress, Alberta, Canada, the second child of Cora Johnson Mohr and Louis O. Mohr. When Louise was four months old the family moved to Albany, Texas. When Louise completed the third grade the family moved to Abilene where Louise spent the rest of her life. Louise attended College Heights Elementary and graduated from Abilene High in 1943. She attended a local business school before beginning a career with the Merchandise Department of West Texas Utilities that spanned more than forty years.
Louise was a member of First Central Presbyterian Church for eighty years. She participated in the choir, the Covenant Sunday school class and the Martha Circle. She was a faithful member of the 8:30 Worship Service. After retirement Louise did volunteer work for the church. Louise was also a fifty year member of Chapter 30 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Louise loved to travel and was fortunate to be able to make many trips with her special friend Marietta Martin and family members. She traveled to many areas of the United States visiting family members and some of the beautiful parts of our country.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents Lou and Cora Mohr, her baby sister Frances Ann, her sister Margaret Jones and her husband Austin, her brother Dr. Henry Mohr and her brother Charles Mohr and his wife Orene. She is survived by her sister Josephine M. Bright of Abilene, her sister-in-law Beth Mohr of Andrews and many nieces, nephews and their families.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the wonderful people of Chisholm Place for all of the good care and love they gave Louise during the last years of her life.
The music of her church was an important part of Louise's life and so the family suggests that charitable donations may be made in her name to the First Central Presbyterian Church Organ Fund.
