

Dale was born in Bismark, ND May 16, 1921 where he grew up and graduated high school. He joined the Civilian Conservation Core and worked until the start of World War II. After joining the Army with the 36th Infantry Division, he was transferred to Camp Barkley until his deployment to North Africa. Dale took part in the three invasions of Sicily, Salerno, and Anzio before being wounded in combat in Anzio in 1943. He returned to Abilene and married Norma Foreman of Colorado City. They remained married 64 years until Norma's passing in August of 2009.
Dale is survived by his son, Mark Hilden of Salt Lake City, UT; his daughter, Lisa Hilden of Abilene; two grandsons, Joseph G. Giustiniani and Michael Giustiniani and his family Chenny and son Preston; and his granddaughter, Destiny Mayfield (all of Abilene).
Dale is also survived by his brothers, Jack Hilden and family of Yuma, AZ and Dick Hilden and family of Minneapolis, MN; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and nephews; and mary friends and loved ones.
Dale's entire life was lived in selfless service for his country; his community, and especially his family and friends.
He will be remembered by all who knew him to have lived by the principles of the greatest generation with kindness, devotion, charity, and dignity.
Until we meet on the other side, we will miss you Dale.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
