

She was born to the late Percy Scott Christopher and Ida Lou (Jackson), May 6, 1924, in Crockett, Texas. She married the late Charles E. Morris on December 15, 1946 in Weatherford, Texas, before relocating to Abilene in 1952 with their two daughters.
Della worked for the Abilene Police Department for several years. She was involved with the Rainbow Girls while raising her two daughters. She was an active member of the Eastern Star #30 as well as past Queen ’89-90’ of the Daughters of the Nile, Ziphron Temple #100. She was also a lifetime member of VFW Post 2012.
Della devoted much of her time to the VFW, Ladies Auxiliary, Abilene Shrine Club and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry organizations. She was a longtime member of Elmwood West United Methodist Church of Abilene, Texas.
Della was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Charles “Charlie” Morris; daughter, Vicky Lynn Wimberley; one brother; and three sisters. She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Tate and husband Steve of Arlington, Texas; grandson, Jason Bergin and wife Erin and children Zoe and Brayden of Arlington, Texas; granddaughter, Shannon Romero and husband Joseph and children Victoria and Grace of Abilene, Texas; nephew, Larry Morris and wife Bonnie of White Oak, Texas; great-nephews, Phillip, Bill and Buster Morris and Terry Gunter; great-niece, Joyce Patrick; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 6977 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77030.
A viewing will be held at 7-8 p.m. Friday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012, in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery.
She is busy seeing what we didn’t see and doing what we didn’t do.
