

Elvera “Katie” Kennedy passed away on June 6, 2013 after a long and full life. Graveside services will be Monday, June 10th at 10:00a.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Road, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7p.m. at the funeral home.
“Katie” Kennedy was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1934. Her father, Arthur Wright was a veteran of WWI and fought in France as part of an Army Calvary Unit. As an Air Force wife, Katie had the great privilege to travel all around the country and settled in Abilene in 1970. She loved her garden dearly and had a great passion for her pets. She loved working crossword puzzles and loved to cook family meals and surprise everyone with gifts and goodies.
Katie is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ray W. Kennedy, their sons, Gary and his wife Felicia, and Kevin; and their daughter, Sharon Baird and her husband, Mitch and their son, Bobby; her beloved granddaughter, Melissa and her great-grandchildren, Xavier, Jaden and Isaiah. Grandson Gary Jr., and granddaughter Jennifer and her great grandchildren, Lyrik, Aayden, Robin and Harmony. Her daughter-in-law, Rhonda Cates was a special friend. Other survivors include her brothers, Jimmy and Douglas Wright and her beloved sister, Frances and her husband, Paul of Kentucky, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
