

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012, at New Light Baptist Church, 518 North 6th Street, Abilene, with Reverend Eddie Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street, Abilene. The family will receive friends at a visitation 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Emma was born July 20, 1933 to Ralph Robert Hill and Eula Mae Chandler Hill in Knoxville, Tennessee. She graduated in 1952 from Austin High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. Emma married James Alvin Coffey, Jr. in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on April 17, 1957. They moved from Big Spring, Texas to Abilene, Texas on December 26, 1979. She was employed by the Dyess Post Office as a postal clerk. Emma was a very faithful member of New Light Baptist Church, serving as a Pastor Aide and with Mission II.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Coffey, Jr.; one brother; and one sister.
Survivors include three sisters, Ralph Mae Kersey of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Betty Lee Coffee of Dayton, Ohio, and Dorothy Ann Staymeyer of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; five sons, James Coffey, III and wife, Karen, of Abilene, Wayne Coffey and wife, Natalie, of Austin, Texas, Michael Coffey and wife, Sally Ann, of Abilene, Kenneth Coffey and wife, Brenda, of Sugarland, Texas, and David Coffey and wife, Jan, of Pflugerville, Texas; a daughter, Celia Coffey of Walnut Creek, California; eight grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
