

Eva Jo Lewis Kasinger, passed away the morning of July 30, 2012 in Plano, TX. Funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Friday, August 3, 2012 at 5th & Grape St. Church of Christ with Mike Bonner, Mike Vestal, and Murphy Rhoads officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 to 7p.m. at the funeral home.
Eva Jo was born February 27, 1947 in Abilene,TX to A.D. and Mary Eva Lewis. She graduated from Abilene High School and later Abilene Christian University as a teacher. Eva Jo taught in Chillicothe, Killeen, and Abilene ISD's for 32 years and worked with Young Audiences through the Abilene Chamber of Commerce. She served as the president of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association in 1986 and also served as local president for many years in Abilene Chapter of Classroom Teachers. Always a teacher's advocate, Eva Jo worked for teacher's rights. She received a proclamation in 1987 from Texas legislature for her efforts to promote education in Texas and also received a lifetime membership from P.T.A.
Eva Jo attended 5th & Grape St. Church of Christ and supervised the preschool and elementary bible classes. She remained active until her untimely death.
Survivors include her husband of 27 years, David; her daughter, Jordan; her sisters, Carolyn Rhoads and husband, Murphy of Abilene and Jan Crisp and husband, Jerry of Garland; a brother, Jerry Lewis and wife, Helen of Keller; many cousins, nieces, nephews and one aunt.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Abilene Arts Alliance/Kasinger Residency in care of Abilene Chamber of Commerce, 174 Cypress Ste. 200 Abilene, TX 79601.
