

George Mack Williams, 90, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014 in Abilene, TX. Visitation will be at 2:00p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at North Park Baptist Church, 1525 Anson Ave, with the funeral service starting at 3:00p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Ft. Phantom Hill Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St.
George was born in Hamby, Texas on August 1, 1924 to Walker T. and Annie Louise Mackechney Williams. He served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1945 as a 1st Class Radarman. He returned to Abilene and graduated from McMurry University.
George was a lifetime resident of the Big Country area and married Joretta Laverne Ruark on February 29, 1952 in Hawley, TX. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for the Texas Highway Department and retired after 35 years. George was past president of Texas Public Employees Association and an active member of North Park Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and two brothers, Preston and Bobby Joe Williams.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Laverne Williams; two daughters, Stephanie Jones and husband, Russell and Janice Reeder and husband, Mark of Abilene; two sisters, Anna Belle Richardson of Granbury, TX and Wanda Lou Howard of Arlington, TX; five grandchildren, Justin Jones, Kristen Whitehead, Jonathan Jones, Lindsey Neal, and Landra Johnson; nine great- grandchildren, Julian, Ryleigh, Emorie, Micah, Tessa, Ross, Kamryn, Cooper, and Anntilley.
