

Gustavo Sosa Jr, 69, of Abilene passed away on August 29, 2018 after complications from surgery. Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial following in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 5 to 7pm, with a rosary starting at 7, on Monday evening at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South.
Gus was a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle, Brother, Cousin, and Friend of many. He proudly served as Sergeant in the Air Force serving as a medic at Webb AFB and Tachikawa, Japan AFB during the Vietnam War. He also served in the National Guard. He proudly flew his flag every day at his house and always shook the hand of a uniformed soldier. He enjoyed spending time with family, golf, hunting, working on his yard & flowers, fixing things, traveling, playing jokes, barbecuing, and earning comps at casinos. He genuinely appreciated the smallest things in life and wouldn’t hesitate to tell you about them. He retired after 35 years with the Texas Department of State Health Services where he was the Vision and Hearing Coordinator for 66 counties in Texas. Gus also held positions within the Speech and Long term care divisions with TDSHS. Prior to TDSHS, he was a Public Health Investigator with the City of Dallas. He was born and raised in San Angelo, TX. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, and graduated from Central High School. He graduated from Angelo State University with Bachelor of Science in Biology. He was married to Toni for 50 years. They were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Gustavo Sosa Sr. and Eloisa Sosa of San Angelo;
Survivors include his Wife, Toni Sosa; Daughter, Evette Rivera and husband Michael of Dallas; Son, Dre Sosa and wife Desiree of Wylie; Grandchildren, Barrett, Bailey, Mikki, Slade, and Ricky; Great Grandchildren; Morgan and KK; brothers, Joe Sosa and wife Irma of Grand Prarie, David Sosa and wife Teresa of San Angelo, and Sam Sosa of Washougal, WA; and a sister, Teri Sosa of Wylie.
