Jackie Karen Abel

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 US Highway 277 S. in Abilene. Interment will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories where she will be laid to rest her with parents.. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6-8:00 PM also at the funeral home.

Jackie was born on April 18, 1951, in Abilene, Texas. She was one of four daughters born to the late Merrill “Ras” Kimbel Reese and Helen Louise (Fannin) Reese. She spent most of her childhood in Abilene. Her family eventually moved to Oklahoma where she graduated from Midwest City High School. She went onto start a family welcoming her two sons, Steve and Justin. She eventually settled back in Abilene where she met and married Kevin Abel. Together they planted roots and welcomed two more children, Aaron and Brittany. Jackie was a devoted homemaker for her families’ early years. She eventually went on to work in several facets of retail and at daycare.

Jackie grew up attending her families church St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was a devoted mother who gave so much care for her family. She will be remembered for her selfless approach to life, her brutal honesty on matters, and being forgiving. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as driving around listening to music and decorating for literally every holiday.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Margie Lind.

She is survived by her children, Steve Lewis, Justin Lewis, Aaron Abel and Brittany Yarbrough and her husband Josh; sisters, Nancy Roberson and Sandy Phelps; 10 grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
