She grew up in Kentucky and at the age of 15, moved to Hemphill, TX to live with her sister. She graduated the following year from Hemphill High School where she met her future husband, Richard Evans. They married on July 16, 1951. The couple had their first son, Richard, Jr. and moved to Houston. In 1958 they had their second son, Harvey. They later retired to Tyler, TX for 16 years and moved to Abilene in 2001. Jewell has always been an active church member.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Evans, Jr. and wife Deborah and Harvey Evans and wife LeeAnn; two grandchildren, Edward Evans and Kenneth Evans and wife Alejandra; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel, 5701 US Hwy 277 South in Abilene. Pastor Clyde Kieschnick will officiate the services. Burial will follow at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.
