

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at New Life Temple Church with Armando Olaque and David Gomez officiating. Burial will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, directed by Community Memorial Funeral Home. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. A prayer service will be 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at New Life Temple Church, 2465 Old Anson Road, Abilene.
Jose was born February 14, 1923 to Benito Murillo and Trinidad Velasquez Murillo in Mexico. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and the Burma-India Campaign, receiving a Ribbon w/one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Victory Ribbon, one Service Stripe, and four Overseas Service Bars. Jose was employed by the City of Abilene in the Transportation Department. He was a member of the American Legion.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Julia C. Murillo (2003); one son, Noah Murillo; one grandson, Joe Murillo; and one great-granddaughter, Honey Maria P. Diaz.
Survivors include two sons, Joe C. Murillo of El Paso, Texas and Danny C. Murillo and wife, Lou, of Abilene; four daughters, Rosie Diaz and husband, Edward, of Abilene, Eva C. Murillo of Abilene, Maria I. Rivero and husband, Adalberto, of Abilene; and Julie Ann Chavarria and husband, Arturo O., of Nampa, Idaho; three brothers, Auerlio V. Murillo and wife, Julie, of Abilene, Celestino Chia of Whittier, California, and Ray Diaz of West Virginia; two sisters, Elvira Gonzales and Lydia D. Hernandez and husband, Genaro, all of Abilene, Texas; twenty grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
