

Juan Moreno Cortinez, 85, passed away on Monday August 29, 2016 at his residence in Abilene. Funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Saturday September 3, 2016 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. with burial following in Abilene Municipal Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his sons. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.
Juan was born in Abilene on May 6, 1931 to Juan and Graciela Moreno Cortinez. A lifetime resident of Abilene, Juan made his living in the construction business with his expertise being in masonry. He loved to work but in his spare time he also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was of the Methodist faith. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elida; daughter, Esther Cortinez; two grandsons, Jason Cortinez and Abren Valdez; brothers, Frank, Maurilio, Seferino, and Isabell Cortinez; and three sisters, Natasha, Lilly and Tive. Survivors include his sons, Richard Cortinez and wife, Karen, John Cortinez and Maxine Reynolds, Raynaldo Cortinez, Clemente Cortinez and wife, Martha, and Rogelio Cortinez all of Abilene, and Robert Cortinez and wife, Carole of Belton, TX; daughters, Consuelo Carreno of Tulsa, OK, Gloria Fontaine and Richard White of Lake Charles, LA, and Hope Hurtado and Juan Pablo of Ft. Worth, TX; two brothers, Ben Cortinez of Abilene and Paul Cortinez of Hawley, TX; two sisters, Irene Bautista of Abilene and Juanita Rodriguez of Madera, CA; 23 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
