Ken was born in Quincy, Illinois on August 10, 1958 to Jesse and June Jones.
Ken went to High School in Pleasant Hill, Illinois where he played football and the trombone. He was given various awards in High School connected with Boy's State.
After Ken's high school graduation in 1976 he attended Western Illinois University in Macomb for one year. Then in 1977 Ken and his family moved to Abilene, TX. where Ken entered Abilene Christian University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business and Finance several years later. He started working at Mrs. Baird's Bakery during the time he was attending Abilene Christian University.
Ken continued in the Bakery business until his death. He worked at Mrs. Baird's Bakeries all over Texas for 30 years, in San Antonio, Waco, Lubbock and for a time in Colorado. At the time of his death he was a production supervisor at Abimar Bakery in Abilene. Over the years, Ken was recognized and awarded for his various achievements in the bakery business.
Ken married JoAnn, the love of his life, on July 14, 2007 in San Antonio, TX. They met while working at Mrs. Baird's Bakery and knew each other for 20 years before Ken passed. Ken and JoAnn were good friends before they were married. They were married for 13 of those 20 years.
Ken was an avid sports fan. He loved the St Louis Cardinals and the K.C. Chiefs. He could not get enough Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and always loved a good BBQ. It's no surprise to anyone who knew Ken, that he also loved his Blackjack.
Ken was known to be tender-hearted and liked to reminisce and tell stories of days gone by. He cherished his friends and memories.
Ken is survived by his wife, JoAnn Jones
Also, two stepchildren: Jessica Hernandez of Abilene, TX and Jose Gutierrez Jr. of Jupiter, Florida
Ken has seven grandchildren: Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr.,Julian Gerardo Hernandez,Amelia Erin Rios,
Jennifer Gutierrez, Darely Gutierrez,Alexandra Gutierrez,Jose Leonel Gutierrez
Ken's mother is Glenna June Dykman, who resides in Abilene, TX at Lyndale Abilene Senior Living Facility.
Ken has one brother, David M. Jones. David and his wife Bonnie live in Beirut, Lebanon.
Ken's nephew, Jeremiah Jones and his wife Charissa live in North Africa with their children Katelyn, Josiah and Kenza Grace.
Ken's niece, Kyndal Lyn Jones, lives in Chattanooga, TN
A visitation will be held Friday evening, October 23, 2020 at the Elliott Hamil Funeral Home in Abilene, TX from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
A memorial service celebrating Ken's life will be held at Elliott Hamil Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday afternoon, October 24, 2020 at 2 p.m. Ken's brother, Dr. David M. Jones, will be officiating the service. The interment will take place immediately following the service at Garden of Memories Cemetery, next to the funeral home.
The Saturday 2 p.m. funeral service will be available to view online live by accessing www.dignitymemorial.com and selecting "Find Obituaries or Services."
The Pallbearers are: Miguel Hernandez, Jose Gutierrez, Jim Williams, Danny Borrego, Jeff Peterson, and Richard Ramon
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of the many friends and family who have called and also expressed their love and condolences by sending food, cards, gifts and flowers.
