

Lance Owen Sims, 47, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 18, 2012 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory St. Burial will follow in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery on FM600, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. A luncheon for family and friends will follow the services at 1:00p.m. at Crescent Heights Baptist Church located at 1902 N. Mockingbird. Officiating the services will be Chris Hale, Fire Department Chaplain and Pastor Rudy Fambrough of Crescent Heights Baptist Church.
Lance was born on October 26, 1964 in Ft. Worth, TX. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1983. Lance attended Hardin Simmons University before serving 2 years in the U. S. Army. For the past 23 years, Lance has worked for the U.S. Postal Service until the time of his death.
Lance enjoyed playing the trumpet and had the opportunity to play a solo performance at a NFL playoff game between the New Orleans Saints and the 49ers in the New Orleans Superdome. He also loved flying radio controlled airplanes and was a wonderful and devoted family man.
Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Loretta Medley of Abilene; a daughter, Lillian Mae Sims of Abilene; two brothers, Loyd Wayne Sims and wife, April of Denton, TX and Arthur Lee Sims and wife, Lori of Forsan, TX; four aunts; eight cousins; and multiple nieces and nephews.
The family will welcome friends for a visitation on Sunday, June 17th from 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
