Matthew "Matt" W. Fillmon Sr.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2010, at Woodlawn Church of Christ, with Dan Rogers and Paul Shero officiating. Burial will follow in Round Mound Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends at a visitation 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Matthew was born November 4, 1955 to Hazel (Jennings) and Wesley Fillmon in Snyder, Texas. He was employed by the City of Abilene Water Department for 26 1/2 years until his retirement. Matthew loved his grandchildren and was their babysitter. He enjoyed watching western movies and was a history buff. Matthew had an extreme love and passion for cats. His family and friends were very important to him and he really liked helping people, putting everybody before himself. Matthew lived a very simple lifestyle and was laid back and content with what he had. His love for God and his belief in Heaven defined his life. He was a member of Baker Heights Church of Christ.

Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Fillmon.

Survivors include his mother, Hazel Fillmon of Abilene; his wife, Brenda Walker Fillmon of Abilene; a son, Matthew Wesley Fillmon, Jr. of Abilene; a daughter, Laura Fillmon Peterson and husband, Jeff, of Abilene; his mother-in-law, June Walker of Abilene; two sisters, Becky Rogers and husband, Dan, of Athens, Texas and Ellen Mask and husband, David, of Weatherford, Texas; grandchildren, Lanie and Owen Peterson of Abilene; and a host of relatives and friends.
