

Graveside services have been rescheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, October 11, 2021 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene with Pastor Dennis McNulty officiating under the direction of Elliott Hamil.
The son of James W. and Margaret F. Preston King, Basil grew up in Tyro, Lincoln County, Arkansas. He was born October 6, 1933 and graduated from Dumas High School.
At the age of 19, Basil enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1953 until 1955. He tried civilian life for a while but decided to enlist with the United States Air Force. Basil retired in 1974 with 20 years of military service.
Basil met his wife, Nancy Carolyn McDonald, on a blind date arranged by his cousin. They were married December 26, 1958, in Emerson, Columbia County, Arkansas. Basil and Nancy celebrated 54 years of marriage before her passing in January 2013.
After retirement, Basil began exploring the world as a truck driver. His hobbies were science fiction, rebuilding old cars, and team bowling with Nancy. They were both loyal Dallas Cowboy fans.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife and grandson, Christopher Marc Kreps.
Survivors include his daughters; Lori Stanley of Fort Worth, Sondra and Aaron Johnston of Corpus Christi and Renee and Dennis McNulty of Ringgold, Georgia; grandchildren, Terry Johnston, Brock (Amy) Johnston, Bonnie (Greg) Brooks, Austin (Valerie) McNulty, Travis (Emily) McNulty, Hailey McNulty and Sean McNulty; great-grandchildren, Mason Johnston, Brenna Johnston, Hayden Johnston, Olivia Brooks, Boone Brooks, Tripp Brooks, Max McNulty and Deacon McNulty.
Basil was loved and will be sorely missed by his family.
