Nelson D. Owens

Nelson Dale Owens, 76, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010 in a local medical center. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 11th at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Brother Benny Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Rd. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born May 5th, 1934 in Colorado City, Texas, Nelson was the son of P. J. and Mona (Beach) Owens. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He owned and operated Owens Painting Company. Nelson was a Baptist and a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeff Owens; three brothers, Doug Owens, Lanny Owens and Danny Owens; and sister, Joy Busbee.

Survivors include his wife, Tiney Owens of Abilene; daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Mike Collins of Tuscola, Tracie Gray and Amy Sparks, both of Abilene; four brothers, Bill Owens, Sammy Owens, Benny Owens and Darry Owens; and sister, Sheila Williamston. Also grandsons, Jeff and Lanny Gray, Andrew and Aaron Pence, and Adrian Sparks; granddaughter, Brandi Gray; two great-granddaughters, Sydney and Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
