A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 18th, 2013, in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, with Dennis Greer officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene.
Born February 18th, 1928 in Taylor County, Lester was the son of the late Lester Humphrey, Sr. and Sallie “Emma” Humphrey. Lester served his country in the United States Navy. He married Evelyn (Tommie) Dickson in December of 1952. Tommie preceded Lester in death on June 5th, 1992.
Lester and his father started a pest control business in 1947. Lester Humphrey Pest Control served communities in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona for over 60 years. Although killing bugs and being called the “bug man” was what he was known by, later in life, Lester found the time and the joy to hunt with his grandson Marc McKelvey. Lester and Marc traveled many miles and many countries together to hunt, including Russia, Africa, and Canada. The real joy and light of his life in his final years was to tell you about their travels/hunts together.
Survivors include a daughter, Pat Fite and husband Don; a son, Randy Humphrey; a sister, Helen Jones of Quanah; and six grandchildren.
For Lester’s love of animals, memorials may be sent to Rescue the Animals, 5933 South 1st, Abilene, Texas 79605 or for our gratitude to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory Street, Abilene, Texas 79601.
