Richard Daniel Gonzalez

Richard Daniel Gonzalez, 50, of Abilene passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2010 in a local hospital. Services are being handled under the direction of Elliott-Hamil, 542 Hickory. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 15th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories. A rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, December 16th at 2:00 p.m. at Southern Hills Church of Christ, 3666 Buffalo Gap Road. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Richard was born February 25, 1960 in Abilene. He was the youngest of seven children born to Jesus and Trina Guerrero Gonzalez. Richard graduated from Abilene High School and attended ACU. He was employed as Campus Administrator at the Abilene State Supported Living Center.

Richard had a great love and passion for music; he was an accomplished lead guitarist. Through this love of music, he toured abroad with the USO, was featured as a musician on a major motion picture soundtrack and was in numerous local bands.

Richard will be remembered for his love of family, his wit and ability to make others laugh. He loved the individuals at the Abilene State Supported Living Center and used his gift of music to entertain them.

His survivors include his family Becca, Ben and Jake; sisters, Alicia Arreola of Arizona and Teresa Picot of Abilene; brothers, Bob Gonzalez and David Gonzalez of California and Hector Gonzalez of Abilene. Richard was predeceased by his mother, father and brother, Jesse Gonzalez. Richard is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Felicia and Ricardo, Gary and Greg, Nancy and Gabe, John, and Jason, as well as many Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Volunteer Services Council, P. O. Box 451, Abilene, Texas 79604, which is a non-profit organization with proceeds contributing to individuals at Abilene State Supported Living Center.
