

Robert E. Brown, 77, of Abilene, Texas, passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 9, 2026. He was born in Lubbock, Texas, on April 11, 1949, to parents Joe Tom Brown and Evelyn Elizabeth (Ellison) Brown.
He was raised in Abernathy, Texas, where he graduated from Abernathy High School in 1967 and attended Texas Tech University. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for four years. He retired from the electrical department at Texas Tech University after 35 years.
He married the love of his life, Barbara, in 1972, and together they raised two sons in Lubbock, Texas.
Robert was known for his sense of humor and his knack for telling great stories about his many adventures in life. He loved traveling, especially if the destination landed him on a beach. Robert could build anything with wood and enjoyed spending time in his shop making furniture. His family will always cherish the things he made for them. He loved spending time with his sons, and he enjoyed hunting and shooting with them. Robert was a dedicated husband, dad, grandaddy, and friend, and will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Actkinson Brown, of nearly 54 years; sons, Chris Brown and wife Heather of Tuscola, TX, and Trey Brown of Abilene, TX; grandson, Carson Brown of Fort Worth, TX; and two nieces, Tandy Webb of Lubbock, TX, and Cindy Parker of Cross Plains, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Sean Patrick Brown; brothers, Joe Tom Brown Jr. and Kenneth Brown; and sister, Elizabeth Brown.
Visitation will be held at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, TX 79606, on April 16, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A funeral service will take place at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home on April 17, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
A committal service will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene, 7457 W Lake Rd, Abilene, TX 79601, on April 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
