

Rodney D. Fulcher, 69, Abilene's first and highly regarded landscape architect has gone to be with his Heavenly Father. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 15th, 2010 at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South, with burial following in Buffalo Gap Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Born to Truett and Velda Fulcher October 11, 1940 in Colorado City, Texas, Rodney was the owner of Gardens of the Southwest. As a landscape architect, Rodney was featured in many publications including Southern Accents, Southern Living, Landscape and Irrigation and Abilene Reporter-News. He won awards including an award of merit from the National Pool Institute. Rodney was a member of the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association, American Society of Landscape Architects, Texas Board of Architectural Examiners, Texas Trophy Hunters Association and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid outdoorsman and currently holds a record in the Boone and Crockett Club for a trophy Barren Ground Caribou, taken in Alaska. He was always grateful to the community throughout the years and loved serving his customers.
Survivors include two sons, Brad Fulcher and Blake Fulcher, both of Abilene; and three grandchildren, Brandon Fulcher, Matthew Fulcher and Sarah Fulcher.
