Sharon was born on October 3, 1948, in Emporia, Kansas to the late Marvin Lee Willey and Marjorie Louise (Brickley) Willey. She grew up in a military family and lived in many places stateside and even abroad. She lived an adventurous life, growing up in Morocco, Guam, Germany, and Taiwan—experiences that shaped her deep appreciation for people, cultures, and connection. These journeys helped form the open-hearted, vibrant woman so many came to love.
She graduated from High School in Burns Flat, Oklahoma in 1968. She married William “Bill” Herman Libbers on October 12, 1968, in his hometown of Lafayette, Indiana. The two met while her father was stationed in Taiwan. She then became a devoted Air Force wife moving to several bases. They were stationed at Grissom AFB in Indiana, Hahn AB in Germany, Offutt AFB Nebraska, and finally Dyess AFB. The family came to Abilene in 1982 and planted roots only leaving for a brief time to live in California. A devoted military wife, she selflessly supported her family through the many sacrifices of military life while lovingly raising her three children. She put her family’s needs above her own and did so with grace, strength, and unwavering love.
She was fun, full of life, and endlessly creative. She loved to paint, draw, and create artwork using tile pieces, always finding beauty in color and texture. She also had a deep love for animals and cherished time spent reading, finding comfort, joy, and inspiration in books. She was full of wisdom, and her family went to her for everything—guidance, comfort, and perspective. She was the glue that held her family together.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life and brought her immeasurable joy. She absolutely loved people and was never afraid to talk to strangers, often turning simple encounters into meaningful conversations. Her warmth made others feel instantly at ease.
She was also stylish and always beautifully put together. She loved her clothes and jewelry, expressing her personality through her sense of style, which was as memorable as her smile.
She will be remembered for her selflessness, creativity, wisdom, and the love she gave so freely. Her presence filled every room, and her absence leaves a space that can never be replaced.
She was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law, Herman John Libbers and Lillian Agnes Libbers.
She leaves to cherish precious memories her devoted husband of 57 years SMSgt. William H. Libbers, USAF(Ret.); her son, William Herman “Billy” Libbers, II; daughters, Marjorie Price and her husband Chris and Jennifer Urban and her husband Mario; grandchildren, William Herman “L.B”, III, Logan, Lausen, Amber and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Addy, Will, and Rylie; her siblings, Mike Willey and Diana Crook and her husband Doug.
