

Tommy was born on July 28, 1949, in Sweetwater, Texas to the late Isaiah P. Monroe and Virginia Rose (Booker) Monroe. He grew up in a large family and enjoyed creating memories with his siblings. In his close-knit community, he established many childhood friendships that he carried throughout life. He attended local schools where he was active in sports. He graduated from Sweetwater High School. He married Barbara Nell Green of Colorado City on August 11, 1969, in Colorado City. In October of 1969 he joined the United States Army Tommy, his wife and infant daughter were stationed in Virginia. After moving back to Texas and beginning civilian life he worked for numerous companies in numerous fields. Tommy was always open to a new adventure, and this allowed him to experience many different journeys through life.
His childhood love of sports carried into adulthood where he led and sponsored several sports teams. Tommy thought a lot of himself but at the same time-maintained humbleness. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and being a jokester. He always liked to make others laugh. He was generous often to a fault. He never met a stranger, once you were a part of his life he showed fierce loyalty to the relationship. He enjoyed the thrill of games of chance. He LOVED BINGO and went faithfully. He will be remembered for his unique approach to life. Tommy truly did things his way!
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ben Monroe; sisters, Wanda Jean Gray, Rose Washington, and Mablene Armstrong Hunter; numerous other relatives.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Barbara Nell Monroe; his children, Jennifer Malveaux, Sheila Monroe and Marcus Monroe and his wife, Bea; eight grandchildren, KeAndre Malveaux and his wife Kyla, Kwentin Malveaux, Kenadi Malveaux, Jhordan Mason and his wife, Alaya, Jhaden Monroe, Markis Monroe, Mia Monroe, and Mayson Monroe; one great grandson, Zhaelyn Mason; his brothers, Farris Monroe and his wife Ann and Kenneth Monroe; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
