

Barron Wellborn, Sr., 89, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Broadview Baptist Church, 2500 S. 27th St., with Rev. David Cason officiating and Rev. Wes Terry assisting. Burial will follow in Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Barron was born on March 7, 1926 in Wingate, Texas to James David Wellborn and Mary L. Boozer Wellborn. He attended school in Cookville, Texas and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 serving his country proudly as a Sergeant. Barron married Jewell Juanita Anderson on July 28, 1950 in Wingate, TX. In 1961, the couple moved from Colorado City to Abilene. Barron worked as a print shop manager for WTU for 19 years and retired in 1992. He was a member of the VFW and AARP, and a member of Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Juanita; a son, James Lee Harris; daughter, Wanda Jewel Reeves; five brothers; three sisters; and two grandchildren. Survivors include his son, W.B. “Dub” Wellborn, Jr. and wife, Patty Rae of Abilene, daughter, Brenda Wilde and husband, Kenneth of Abilene; a sister, Lura Smith of Midland, TX; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
